The new series is well underway, with a fourth seahorse joining the mix!!! You can see the first three party animals here. This little purple one is just hanging out by herself, enjoying the flora and taking in all the sights and sounds of the sea.
People say things get busy in New Orleans in late September/early October. After painting, reading, and overheating all summer, I'm finally starting to see why the locals say NOLA heats up in the fall. Charity events, conferences, parties, festivals — recovering from each late night in time for the next event is a delicate process that takes much more practice than I currently have.
Yet, we have to say that yesterday and last night were totally worth it. The festivities kicked off at 2 p.m. with the 10th Annual Ezra Open, a charity bowling tournament held in Mid-City.
At about 7 p.m. the bowling teams and other patrons gathered at the Theatre at Harrah's Casino for a party of epic proportions. The Better Than Ezra guys, who had partied, bowled, and graciously hosted all day, played a killer set with Harrah's twinkling blue and white stars glowing behind them. Items were auctioned to generous donors, friendships were made, scenes were caused, and funds were raised for the City of New Orleans. Let's hope it's the first of many good times for good causes!!!
Here is a brand-new painting of Seahorses Dancing in the Marigny. They are having a party on the (in)famous Frenchmen Street, where all the locals and local transients hang out, where there are late-night book shops and live music shows almost every night. What a fun place!!! These Seahorses sure think so. Oh, they also glow in the dark. How very cultural of them!! Check them out on the Goodies page.
I walked up to the gallery door this morning to find a bevy of small gifts.... Given the matching M.O. of our previous anonymous donor, we can reasonably conclude it is the same person who left our last special delivery. Consider the facts:
1st Strike: Kitten Muses Throw. Box of Lemonheads. Nightly deposit.
2nd Strike: Alligator Muses Throw. Penguin Muses Throw. Happy Feet Widescreen DVD. Box of Redhead Chewy Lemonhead & Friends. Nightly deposit.
The similarities are too well executed for this to be a copycat bandit. I suspect the addition of the DVD is meant to divert my attention, so that I spend all afternoon watching tap-dancing birds instead of solving the mystery. Who IS this elusive sprite?!??!??! Our experienced forensics teams tells us the transfer of gifts was perpetrated between midnight and 10 a.m. this morning.
I'm considering asking some Sasquatch seekers if I can borrow their infrared, motion-activated camera. We must discover the identity of this nocturnal elf!!!
The Southern Decadence festival is over, and we were beginning to feel like all our best friends left town. Suddenly the city was quiet, although peaceful, sunny, and crisp-aired after Tropical Storm Lee left. We wish all the party people of this weekend could have had weather like this!! Instead they got deluges and flash floods... Fortunately, the unfavorable weather didn't seem to deter the fun.
Just as we were starting to feel sad in the quiet wake of the departed storm and revelers, we opened the door to a special treat!!! Two gifts from a secret admirer. The suspense as to the identity of our anonymous gift giver is killing us! Yet we love the thrill of not knowing who the kitten-giver is... A mystery to be solved!
Here's a picture of the new arrivals. We assume the beneficent donor included the Lemon-Heads in case Muses the Cat got hungry... but we're probably going to go ahead and eat them. Stuffed animals shouldn't eat candy, anyway.
