In the spirit of the beauty of the park's floral and faunal inhabitants, I'm working to imbue this dog with the serenity, complexity, and grace of the natural world. Oh, and also the party-hard vibe of New Orleans. It still needs work, but here's a sneak preview:
I found out yesterday that this Bead Dog will be displayed in Coliseum Square Park in the Lower Garden District. It's a beautiful park in a fabulous location, and I know from personal visits and countless drive-bys that people are always out with their canine friends enjoying the huge oaks and the sprawling walkways. In the spirit of the beauty of the park's floral and faunal inhabitants, I'm working to imbue this dog with the serenity, complexity, and grace of the natural world. Oh, and also the party-hard vibe of New Orleans. It still needs work, but here's a sneak preview: Add Comment I'm so happy :D I finished my Bead Dog sponsored by Trinity School in the Garden District, and got sponsored for ANOTHER one by the LSPCA!! That means I have a new dog to work on all this week, and get to continue being part of this fabulous fundraiser and public art project. Mom and I took a whole bunch of pictures of the swap (trading my completed Bead Dog for a brand new blank one!!). The finished one is getting varnished and is set to be installed early in May. Today I met a clan of students from Trinity, the Episcopal Church and School that is sponsoring my Bead Dog!!! I was so excited to meet them, and they were so sweet. They said they loved my work! Here is an update, the Bead Dog is almost done... Until further notice I'll be working on it in the studio at 736 Royal! Come by to visit, or in a week or two you can see it at Trinity at 1329 Jackson Avenue in NOLA's Garden District. :) My "Night and Day in NOLA" Bead Dog got sponsored!! That means I got to pick one up to paint, and it will be on display at Trinity Episcopal School & Church in the Garden District. I'm very honored and excited, especially because the students apparently voted on designs and they chose mine! Nothing like being chosen by a discerning group on the merit of your art alone. I'm putting in my hours to make this the best Bead Dog I can make, as a thank you for their support and sponsorship. The LSPCA is one of my favorite organizations. They never fail to impress, and this season they are hosting a city-wide Mardi Gras Bead Dog art installation!!! Artists from around the community are contributing, and I'm hoping to join in the ranks. I've submitted my designs, and now I need a sponsor!! Please see my three posted designs: Click on any of the dogs for information on sponsoring (or visit here). Check out the LSPCA Bead Dog Flickr stream for these designs and others by talented and clever New Orleans artists!! :D We are proudly contributing to the WYES Art Collection 12 -- check out more information on the Auction here!! I've made a few new Notebook Series paintings. The new little monkey from The Notebook Series is people-watching in our window. Come say hello!! Today I have a couple of new Notebook Series originals. The two above are both 3 feet by 4 feet, Oil and Acrylic paint on Canvas. The first (yellow paper) features a line from "Alice in Wonderland", and the second (white paper) is from "The Little Prince". More to come, and a wonderful January SALE featuring the series!! One of my all-time favorite places to shop and acquire materials is The Green Project (TGP), a mecca of reclaimed New Orleans architectural treasures. So imagine my delight when friend and creative mastermind Steve Suchman — in New Orleans designing a wonderfully science-y IMAX film — returned from a recent hunting & gathering trip to TGP with a beautiful brass chandelier in tow!! He recognized the potential in the piece and told me to make it my own. So, I scrubbed it up, put on some primer, painted it turquoise, and finished off the whole show with some high-gloss epoxy resin! The final result? An old New Orleans treasure turned into a bright, shiny piece of art. I created it with the intention of crafting a statement piece full of history and heritage that isn't afraid to flaunt a modern yet classic sensibility. I hope to visit The Green Project each time a statement piece sells, so I can keep the circle of reclaiming, reusing, and recycling going and can feature one bright, reclaimed piece in the gallery at all times! Style and functionality for a good cause :) A portion of the cost for this original chandelier goes back to New Orleans relief and rebuilding efforts. |
